3 Pines Nature Place 2019
at The Warwick Valley Community Center, Hamilton Ave, Warwick, NY is part of the 3-acre campus of The Warwick Valley Community Center, an established, vibrant, multi-use space in a mixed residential area of the Village. It started as a volunteer community project in 2017 and grew a bit each season: first, Logs for Climbing; a Dry Stream Bed last year; a Dirt Kitchen this year.
Architect and Landscape Architect participation was crucial; Contractors and the builder of Grasshopper Grove were involved; and there’s help on Community Work Days from parents, church groups and corporate volunteers.
It complements other parks in the Village.
One parent says she knows just when to bring
her child here or to the more traditional playgrounds.
It's based on Loose Parts approach to play: Just make interesting materials available.
No Instructions or Directions needed. Trust Imagination. Don’t over-organize.
Total grant funding of $26,000 – with $5,000 still unspent
