In this age of shopping online, discover the joy of making things by hand with materials discovered in the beautiful forests of Rowe. Here’s your chance to use your hands and make something you can take home with you -- a rustic bench or table, sturdy and functional, constructed from a slab log that you’ll shape yourself and fit with branch legs. Working with the author of the classic Making Rustic Furniture, you’ll work with hand and power tools and use the traditional mortise and tenon joint and other forms of joinery, learning the unique qualities of natural materials and how to work with the wood, not on the wood. You’ll also make a small, scale-model “trophy chair” of twigs and sticks, one that uses the same techniques as a full-size chair. You’ll gain the ability to work with the surprising challenges and subtleties of the rustic way of making things, acquire a better understanding of personal design, and develop an appreciation for the breadth of materials found in nature. You’ll also have a lot of fun!

Limited to 20 people. $25 materials fee.

Daniel Mack has been working with sticks, saplings, logs, bark, and driftwood to make rustic furniture for 30 years. In addition to the bestselling Making Rustic Furniture, he is the author of The Art of Rustic Furniture, The Rustic Workshop, and Rustic Garden Furniture and Accessories.
