RULES
NATURE OF ARTWORK:
Artwork will be designed to be responsive and sensitive to the environment

minimal or no maintenance (see MAINTENANCE below).
SITE SELECTION:
Approximately 20 sites (some water sites) are identified for artwork
installation along the walking trails at the Outdoor Discovery Center. Each
Artist will be assigned a specific site for his/her installation. The
Evaluation Committee will try to accommodate each Artist’s requested priority
site to the best of the Committee’s ability.
The identified sites will be available for review by interested Artists
after September 16, 2013. The center of each approximately 10’ – 12’ square
site will be marked with a blue flag. Questions about the sites and the project
in general will be addressed at the Optional Information Meeting scheduled for
October 4 and 5, 2013. Interested artists must view the identified sites before
these meetings.
MANDATORY PRE-INSTALLATION MEETING:
Pre-installation meetings will be held on Friday, February 8 and Saturday,
February 9, 2014. Artists are required to attend one of these meetings to be
held at The Outdoor Discovery Center. Final information concerning site
assignments, installation procedures, scheduling and other details will be
presented and discussed.
MATERIALS:
The artwork installations shall consist of predominately natural materials
– over 80% is encouraged. The use of existing living site materials (trees,
vines, shrubs, etc.) will be allowed providing the use does not result in any
damage (as determined by the Project Sponsor) to the site.
Materials resulting from ongoing Nature Museum site maintenance activities
may be available for use by participating Artists on a first-come first-served
basis. Such materials include logs, vines, branches, herbaceous materials,
etc.
The introduction or use of invasive natural materials (as determined by the
Project Sponsor) is strictly prohibited. Such material includes, but is not
limited to bittersweet, wild grape, ivy, phragmites, barberry, etc.
CONSTRUCTION/REMOVAL:
The Artist is responsible for all artwork delivery, assembly, installation,
removal, shipping and site restoration and assumes the costs related thereto.
Limited assistance to participating Artists with transporting materials,
etc. to their specific artwork site will be available.
MAINTENANCE:
Maintenance of each installation will be the responsibility of the Artist
throughout the duration of the project. Any required maintenance observed by
the Project Sponsor during the project will be brought to the attention of the
Artist and shall be rectified by the Artist within 48 hours of notice. Failure
to adequately maintain an installation will result in a request to the Artist by
the Project Sponsor to remove his/her artwork from the project.

maintenance, and the timely removal of the artwork and for restoration of the
site. The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum does NOT provide insurance or
