Rustic Furnishings

2. On-Site Nature Play Workshops

Natural Fence Building                    2-4 hours

Rustic builder Daniel Mack introduces you to the uses of windfall limbs and branches as we build a debris fence on the lovely MSM Desmond Campus property in Newburgh/Balmville. In just a few hours, you’ll get confident about the design and construction of fencing and woodland sculptures from fallen wood. bring work gloves.  $40

This workshop is a great team-building event for a land-based organization... Dan did a gerat version for the Orange County Land Trust on  one of their Preserves  which needed to mark thye property boundaries.  There are other, related versions which just create charming wandering stick paths in the woods, which slowly compost back into the earth.

Working with Driftwood                           2-4 hours

Join rustic builder Daniel Mack on the banks of the Hudson River for a few hours of smart fun. We’ll meet at Plum Point

at 10AM and with a few simple tools and a good eye, build from the driftwood we find and collect there. You might make a bench or a sculpture. You can leave it there or take it home. Dan will teach about the various kinds of tools and techniques he uses to make driftwood creations. Please bring a cordless drill.  $40

Offered through Mt St Mary College, Newburgh, NY

Making Things in the Woods               October 3, 2009

Dan worked, er, played with a bunch of people in the Woods for an  afternoon of making lightly-scaled Land Art: things that hang, re-arranged fallen wood, colored chalks in unexpected areas of a piece of property belonging to The Orange County Land Trust.  They are interested in introducing more people to the many different properties they own.  Go the the OCLT preserve near Rt 416/207 and see for yourself! Earlier in the year, Dan's artist friend Robbie Haleane did a Stone Wall building Workshop at another site.  The point: Get artists working/playing on the Land! Thanks to land artists Carolyn, Caroline, Leslie, Avri, April, Anna, Tim, Bonnie and Mary.
